As the NFL season kicks off, Reddit, the popular online discussion platform, has made a significant move. To commemorate the league's 32 teams, Reddit has revealed a vast collection of NFT-backed avatars, merging the passion of football fans with the expanding world of digital collectibles.

As teams like the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the season's start, Reddit has released one of its most extensive collections of Collectible Avatars. These digital assets are priced at $25 per "Snoo" NFT, representing Reddit's iconic alien mascot. Each NFL team has a cap of 500 avatars, making them limited edition collectibles.

Interestingly, this isn't Reddit's first venture into NFL-themed avatars. Fans of teams like the Philadelphia Eagles or the Super Bowl champion Chiefs might recall a free set of avatars released by Reddit during the league's championship game last February.

Reddit's online communities, such as r/NFL or r/NFCEastMemeWar, are known for their game day discussions. These collectibles could offer fans a novel way to showcase their team allegiance in comment sections, adding a digital flair to their fandom.

Among the NFL teams, the New England Patriots' NFT avatars seem to be the fan favorites, with 41 out of 500 already sold. Following closely are the Chiefs and Eagles. On the other end of the spectrum, the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts have seen a more modest uptake, with only five avatars each being purchased.

Reddit's entry into NFTs began last summer when they chose Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network known for its cost-effective and speedy transactions, as their preferred blockchain. Since then, the platform has expanded its NFT offerings with multiple collections. To date, 22 million collectible avatars have been minted, held by 18 million unique users, as per data from the crypto analytics platform, Dune.

Reddit has recently unveiled its own NFT collection, introducing a unique set of Collectible Avatars on the Polygon blockchain.

The connection between sports enthusiasts and digital assets isn't new. A survey from Seton Hall University last year revealed that sports fans are twice as likely to own digital assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or NFTs compared to the general population.

Reddit's digital collectibles are stored in a user's "Vault," a digital wallet integrated into Reddit's mobile app. This wallet was introduced last summer and also holds other crypto features from Reddit, such as community-specific tokens.
